New Braunfels Run Club Energizes Downtown with Wednesday Night Miles |
Community spirit thrives as runners of all levels gather weekly for fitness and camaraderie |
Every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m., downtown New Braunfels transforms into a vibrant hub of activity as the NBTX Run Club convenes outside the Pour Haus for their weekly run.
Established in December 2023, the club has flourished under the leadership of co-leaders Hunter Boltz and Bibian Cespedes, who have introduced themed runs, raffles, and an active social media presence to foster a sense of community.
Participants can choose from a 2-mile walk, a casual 2.6-mile loop, or more ambitious 4- and 5-mile routes that wind through the city's historic core.
What began as a small gathering has now grown to include hundreds of runners, reflecting a broader trend of increasing popularity in run clubs worldwide.
In New Braunfels, the club offers newcomers an instant network of neighbors, aligning perfectly with the town's rapid growth and influx of new residents.
However, not everyone is thrilled.
Some locals have expressed concerns about traffic safety on the narrow downtown streets.
City officials have noted that improving sidewalks and signals is already part of the strategic plan.
Meanwhile, club organizers are partnering with local nonprofits, such as the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area, and planning a formal safety presentation as they aim to become a nonprofit and eventually host their own 5K event.
For many in this Hill Country town, Wednesday nights now mean more than just miles—they're a chance to connect.
"It's more than miles," says Boltz.
"It's about building community." |
